Worcester Guildhall Tour
Following a Guildhall charity event before Christmas where the Mayor, Paul Denham came around viewing our stall and where Sarah Hindley outlined the aims of our charity, she suggested the possibility of our Deaf Coffee Morning Group doing a Guildhall tour.
Hence a wonderful afternoon with the Mayor showing 18 of us round the large stately two-floored ornamented rooms explaining about local history and local people. We were also shown the Council Chamber where political debates and decisions were held. It was gruesome to see the dark cold damp prison cells where people went on to serve terrible sentences and faced death. Finally after refreshments in the Mayor’s parlour we looked at all the functions of office – the Mayor’s chain, maces, sword of state, etc.
Our grateful thanks to the Mayor for being an excellent and knowledgeable host and to Debra for interpreting.
