Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I learn with Deaf Direct?

As your local Deaf-led voluntary sector organisation, by learning with us you will be supporting services locally and you will benefit from the unique holistic teaching experience we offer. We are dedicated to making sure that you enjoy your learning journey with us, and really want to see your skills flourish! We also provide you with a range of home study materials and exercises to consolidate your learning, and can offer online support in addition to your classroom activities.

We also have a very good pass rate of 94%!

What makes Deaf Direct better than my local college?

Unlike Further Education colleges, we only offer deaf-related courses, and we are really good at it!

We have undisturbed teaching rooms (usually within the Deaf Centre) which make an ideal environment to learn BSL. We encourage you to get together and practise outside of the classroom, and can guide you to engage with learning opportunities such as volunteering or attending events.

Deaf Direct is in the unique position to help you to progress onto a future career working with Deaf / Hard of Hearing people. We offer BSL courses up to NVQ Level 6 and we have opportunities for a variety of volunteering and paid support-work roles in the community.

Will I get a qualification?

Yes, all our accredited courses result in nationally recognised qualifications on successful completion of all the course units. Your certificate is provided by Signature, the UK’s only accrediting body for BSL courses.

Are there any concessions to the course fees?

As an independent course provider, we do not have access to the same funding as F.E. colleges. We are therefore sadly unable to offer fee concessions.

As a non-profit making organisation, our revenue goes towards our core work; supporting deaf and hard of hearing communities in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Oxfordshire. The fees you pay contribute directly to this work.

Can I pay by instalments?

Please see your course information pack for payment options.
