Deaf Direct provides a wide variety of deaf awareness and communication tactics training.
We are able to offer training sessions from one hour to a full day, depending on your individual and organisational needs.
Bespoke Training
The training will be tailored to suit the needs of your organisation. Sessions can range from hour long taster sessions, for example for GPs on their lunch break, to full day courses.
Content will vary depending on your needs and the time available but can include:
- Information on the numbers of people affected by a hearing loss
- Communication options and methods
- Improving the communication environment
- Helpful equipment - what it is and where to get it
- When to book an interpreter or other communication professional
- Basic BSL
A certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants in bespoke training.
Signature Deaf Awareness
This nationally recognised, accredited course offers students the opportunity to gain introductory-level knowledge and a basic understanding of deafness, deaf people and their needs. Needing only 6 hours of tuition this is a great course for those who have regular contact with, or have recently started working with, deaf, deafened or hard of hearing people. It is also an ideal companion course to British Sign Language Level 1.
Signature Communication Tactics
This nationally recognised, accredited course provides an introduction to the skills needed for communicating effectively and confidently with deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and deafblind people. It is a very practical course and is ideal for 'frontline' workers, such as reception staff, helping to ensure your organisation is accessible. Within the 6 hour course you will receive guidance, tips and hands on experience in a range of communication techniques.
