Toys Like Me
|A group of parents has launched an online campaign to see a new generation of toys bringing greater diversity to the playroom. Some of the parents of children with disabilities felt so let down by traditional toys, they began to modify their own. They called the campaign #ToyLikeMe.They sent toy manufacturer Makies (along with other providers) an email asking if they could make dolls with disabilities and Makies responded to their requests less than two months. Just a few weeks later and the world’s first cochlear implant wearing doll was created, thanks to the efficiency of 3D toy printing!
Since then, a number of dolls have been created representing different disability groups and other manufacturers have started to support the campaign.
BBC TV’s See Hear promoted the products in the quick news section at the end of this episode.
