St Richard’s Hospice Lights of Love service
By Donna Rubin, Interpreter
Every year St Richard’s Hospice hold a Lights of Love service at Worcester Cathedral. The service is a time to remember and celebrate the lives of any loved ones that have passed away. After the service there is a short candlelit procession to the Christmas Tree at St Andrew’s Spire Deansway, where the dedicated lights are switched on.
Some years ago a member of the local deaf community, and long standing supporter of Deaf Direct, was looked after by the hospice. Since that time, one of the Deaf Direct interpreting team has volunteered to interpret the Lights of Love service, helping to make the service more accessible for Deaf sign language users.
The interpreted service is on Friday 14th November at 7pm in the Cathedral. Please arrive early to guarantee a seat as this is a well-attended event.
There will also be a BSL interpreter at the Primrose Hospice Tree of Lights Service on Sunday 23rd November in Redditch. More information to follow next week.
