Ride Duathlon – a Run-Bike-Run event
Sarah Hindley, Deaf Direct’s Fundraising Manager, made contact with Pulse Pursuits who organise fun, accessible outdoor events. They agreed their new event “Arden Attack” could be a Charity event fund raising for Deaf Direct. With this in mind Sarah was then able to persuade a team from Sutcliffe & Co. insurance brokers, who are based in Worcester and have acted as brokers for Deaf Direct for many years to enter the event to raise sponsorship money for Deaf Direct. They wore Deaf Direct T-shirts, showing off our brand new strapline, to raise awareness of our organisation.
So, on Sunday 19th February the intrepid team from Sutcliffe & Co. Insurance brokers competed in the Just Ride Duathlon – a Run-Bike-Run event – near Alcester. The course comprised a 5K run, 26K bike ride, then a 3K run. The team’s target was to raise £800 for Deaf Direct. To date they have achieved £615, but there is still time to donate. If you would like to help them achieve their target please click here.
Pulse Pursuits donated £1 to Deaf Direct for every participant at the event, and this raised a total of £130. In addition there were audio announcements made throughout the event, and all mentioned Deaf Direct, again great publicity. In return Deaf Direct provided a group of volunteers to help man the day. Most of the volunteers were marshals providing signposting around the course; however I had the role of presenting medals to the participants. This was again, another awareness raising opportunity, as the participants were meeting a deaf person, and many of them signed thank you
Participants commented that the course was tough, but a good course and Deaf Direct are hoping this will become an annual event for Pulse Pursuits supporting Deaf Direct.
Pulse Pursuits commented:
“As a business we’re always keen to help local charities to raise valuable funds and gain exposure with our events. We were delighted to be able to support Deaf Direct with the Arden Attack Duathlon and hope it marks the start of an exciting partnership.”
I would like to pass on thanks to Sarah for finding this opportunity for us, to Pulse Pursuits for their support, to the volunteers who helped on the day, and also to the team from Sutcliffe who participated and raised sponsorship for us.
If you are feeling inspired by this we have other events throughout the year, please get in touch for more information visit our Events Calendar here. In particular, we are looking for one more cyclist to join the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 cycling event.
