Primrose Hospice Lights of Love Service
By Elaine Spiteri, Outreach Worker
I attended the Primrose Hospice Lights of Love and Tree of Lights service on Sunday afternoon, 23rd November at St Stephen’s Church in the centre of Redditch. The ceremony was to remember those who had been patients at the hospice and who had spent their last days there. The lighted candles are a symbol of love and hope and we all had a candle to hold as we remembered someone special. There were lots of people there with their families. The beautifully dressed choir of the Primrose Hospice encouraged us all to sing and the Minister said some very supportive words to help people to feel they are not alone in their sadness.
The whole event was very ably and confidently signed by our own Debra Berbezier, who is a Trainee Interpreter. Debra told me she was very nervous but it did not show. It was lovely to see one Deaf member of our community there with her family, and even though she was the only Deaf person there, she really enjoyed the occasion and being able to catch up with Debra whom she has known for many years.
