Press Release – Vote to help local deaf and hard of hearing children and adults
Local hearing loss charity Deaf Direct needs your help! The charity, which is Worcester-based but supports people across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Oxfordshire, needs the most number of votes in order to be selected as Sainsbury’s Charity of the Year.
The charity has been shortlisted at six Sainsbury’s stores: Hereford, Kidderminster, Heyford Hill, Malvern Buttercup Walk, Bromsgrove Stourbridge Road and Worcester Foregate Street.
You can vote online at each of these stores by visiting https://www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk/, searching for the store and then clicking ‘Vote’ underneath Deaf Direct. You can also cast your vote when shopping in-store.
Philip Gerrard, CEO of Deaf Direct, is urging everyone to get behind the scheme:
“This year is Deaf Direct’s 90th Anniversary and in this special year, we want to reach out to even more people who need us. Hearing loss is an invisible condition which can impact on all aspects of life including education, employment and social activities. It can very lonely, isolating and frustrating.
1 in 6 people in the UK currently has a hearing loss and we support over 6,000 children and adults each year at our Worcester, Hereford and Oxford Centres. However, we know there are more people we need to reach. By partnering with Sainsbury’s, we will not only be able to raise vital funds, but to raise more awareness about deafness and help more customers to manage their hearing loss.
We are grateful to Sainsbury’s staff for shortlisting us at their stores but need your help to make that partnership a reality. Hearing loss is invisible, we make sure the person isn’t, so please cast your vote for Deaf Direct and help more local deaf and hard of hearing children and adults today.”
