Not everyone wants to take part in a challenge or event, but your staff can still make a difference to those living with hearing loss locally – and even better, it’s tax-free!
Payroll Giving is an easy and effective way to donate money to charity, which is deducted from a person’s salary before tax. For example, if you chose to donate £5 from your salary, only £4 would be taken from the salary of a basic rate taxpayer, £3 for a higher rate taxpayer, but HMRC pay the rest so that Deaf Direct would receive the full £5. This way of giving therefore costs you less, but gives the charity more. A minimum donation of £1 is required in order to take part in the scheme.
You can sign up to donate via Payroll Giving here: https://www.givingonline.org.uk/Deaf-Direct_3176/index.html
Employers – if you wish to take part in Payroll Giving, you will firstly need to sign up with a Payroll Giving Agency. A list of approved agencies can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/payroll-giving-approved-agencies/list-of-approved-payroll-giving-agencies
Some agencies, such as the Charities Aid Foundation, also offer matched giving schemes for employees and other fundraising options, so please do take a look to see which agency best suits the needs of your company. If you need further guidance or support, please contact us.
Once you have established a Payroll Giving Scheme, we will be happy to come to talk to your employees about the benefits of being involved in the Scheme and what this will mean for local Deaf and hard of hearing people. We will also be able to answer frequently asked questions such as how much should I donate, what’s the commitment and what difference will my donation make?
Thank you for your support!
