Panto and Party
On Friday 8th December we had a lovely evening watching a BSL interpreted performance of Sleeping beauty at the Swan Theatre In Worcester. We were very fortunate to receive funding from The Michael Marsh charitable trust, who paid for our tickets and refreshments. A group of almost 40 deaf children ,their parents and Deaf Direct service users attended. The performance was interpreted by Coralie, who did a really great job , especially when the performers added jokes that were not in the original script. It was lovely to see our service users of all ages watching and laughing, one person was laughing so much it made me laugh too !

Feedback from Thom’s Mum ;
“Thank you SO much for giving us this opportunity. Thom attends a mainstream school so access to other Deaf people, Deaf culture and sign language is very infrequent. Not only was he able to access all of these things at the event tonight him and his brothers got to see their very first pantomime! Being a family of 6 trips like these are often too expensive so thank you for making this possible for us. “
On Saturday 9th December Deaf Direct Youth staff were invited to attend the WDCS Christmas party. There are lots of activities on at the party, a bouncy castle, a tombola etc and the children have party food and play games.
We have been attending for several years now and always take an activity with us. This year we took our fingerspelling challenge board. Contestants have to fingerspell the alphabet as quickly as they can, whilst being timed, they then go on a leader board and the fastest person at the end of the party wins a prize. It was good to see the young people practicing their finger spelling.
We had 2 age categories, the 13 and under group and the over 13’s. Faith (13 ) won the 13 and under group with a time of 7.33s and Rebecca (17) won for the over 13 group with a time of 07.33 seconds . They both received a prize of a chocolate Santa from The Chocolate Deli.
