Deaf Direct’s Children, Youth and Families Services supports deaf children, deaf people and their families by organising family events and activities for children and young people. Being deaf can be very isolating for a deaf child and therefore all of our activities welcome children and young people with all levels of hearing loss, as well as their friends and siblings.
Through our projects we provide:
- Information and support
- Family events
- Children’s activities
- Youth activities
- Short Breaks / Residential Experiences
Activities take place on average monthly, and we arrange a wide variety of events such as outdoor activities, art & craft workshops, music and drama and visits to places like Cadbury World or theatre trips. All activities are staffed with experienced youth workers, friendly volunteers and with communication support provided.
Activities are offered free of charge or for a small cost, transport is provided for events outside of the Counties, and travel costs can be reimbursed.
This year, Deaf Direct took 32 children to PGL Osmington Bay in Dorset for an activity and sports week. This included orienteering, rock-climbing, abseiling, fencing, quad-biking, archery, zip-wiring, aeroballing, trapezing, trampolining, wave-boarding, and raft-building. We also had a day-trip to Monkey World!
Deaf Direct works closely with local National Deaf Children Society Local Groups – Worcestershire and Herefordshire and can signpost families to these services.
