Staff training day on 17th June was the perfect opportunity for a Deaf Direct group photo! The week before, I had seen a news article of a story on Twitter that raised awareness of childhood deafness, and I wanted to get DD involved. It all started when a mother in the north east of England, whose son became deaf through meningitis, posted a picture of her and her family during Deaf Awareness Week covering their ears, using the hashtag #handsonears. This spurred celebrities and deaf groups to also get involved and post their own photos with their hands on their ears. Here is the link to Twitter, take a look! There is a picture of the Red Arrows with their own #handsonears picture which is my pick of the bunch!
Below is the group photo from DD, this was posted on Twitter with a link to our website showing our support for childhood deafness through our forthcoming residential in August.
