Deaf Direct interpreting service 1994 to 2014 – 20 years young!
|Yes that’s right! Whilst Deaf Direct’s roots date back to 1935, the interpreting service was not established until 1994. This was only possible because the local deaf community campaigned for the service. We are planning some events to mark this anniversary, and will keep you updated as they are confirmed.
We hope to combine celebration events with capturing local deaf history, developing training resources for our BSL courses, raising awareness of deaf issues in the local health and social care sector, improving access to local services and hopefully we will be able to secure funding to arrange a fun activity day to produce something to be remembered for the next 20, 30 or 40 years!
