Deaf Awareness Week
|This week is Deaf awareness week 2nd – 8th May 2016 so at Deaf Direct we thought it would be a great time to have a fun competition. |
Many Deaf and hard of hearing people rely on lip-reading to support communication, as part of Deaf awareness week we would like to raise awareness of how hard it is to lip-read by giving you a chance to win a fantastic prize of two tickets to Nozstock festival 22-24 July 2016 ( Generously donated by Nozstock http://nozstock.com/line-up/ ).
(Deaf Direct loan Nozstock a loop system at their information kiosk, for any hearing aid users with a loop setting that are attending the festival)
At Deaf Direct we are fully aware of the damage that loud music can cause to our ears, so as part of the prize we are also providing ear plugs to help protect your ears whilst there . (kindly donated by Worcester Hearing Centre http://www.worcesterhearingcentre.co.uk).
All you have to do is watch ten short videos, which we will post on our Facebook page during Deaf Awareness week. The videos feature members of Deaf Direct staff saying words… as there is no sound you will have to lip-read them. At the end of the week we would like you to send us a private message with a list of the ten words you think our staff said. Answers can be typed or you can video yourself fingerspelling the answer. If you don’t know how to fingerspell – now is the perfect opportunity to learn click here
