A 10 week Alpha course has been set up in Worcester for the first time entirely pre-sented in BSL.
The first session was on Wednesday the 28th of September run in con-nection to Word of Hands, a church in Bir-mingham open to the Deaf community.
The Alpha course ex-plored how Christianity can be meaningful in modern life. There are many Alpha courses in UK that are accessible to hearing people but the courses for Deaf BSL users are very limited and rare. Deliver-ing the Alpha course at Deaf Direct in BSL enables the Deaf BSL users to access full information so they can ask questions about life, why are we here and is there more to life than this?
The first session had two Deaf Leaders and five volunteers come to support the course and we worked together to make it happen! The Deaf leaders are both BSL users and the participants were able to ask many deep questions. We were surprised to have 19 Deaf people attending the course and they
took the opportunity to explore the meaning of life.
The Alpha course runs for 9 more weeks from Wednesday 5th October to Wednesday 30th No-vember 2016 including one Saturday 29th Octo-ber 2016. It runs from 1pm to 3.30pm. The course is free with free lunch provided.
I want to give special thanks to Deaf Direct for allowing us to use the room. Special thanks also to the Alpha Leaders and volunteers who commit their time delivering and supporting the Alpha course.
